Paraguay Achieves Second Investment Grade: S&P Upgrades Rating to BBB-

In a historic milestone for the Paraguayan economy, the credit rating agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) upgraded Paraguay's credit rating from BB+ to BBB-, placing the country in the select group of nations with Investment Grade.

This decision adds to the Baa3 rating already granted by Moody's in July 2024, reinforcing international recognition of the country's macroeconomic strength and stability in global markets.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Economy, Carlos Fernández Valdovinos, who emphasized that this rating represents an important endorsement of the country's economic stability and opens new opportunities to attract foreign investment.

The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, expressed after the announcement: "We are living a unique history for the country, we are witnessing the resurgence of a giant."

    What Does Investment Grade Mean?

The combination of Standard & Poor's BBB- rating and Moody's Baa3 rating confirms, to global markets, Paraguay's macroeconomic strength and stability. These evaluations convey to the international financial environment an image of consistency in the country's policies and economic performance.

The importance of achieving investment grade lies in the fact that it will allow more effective access to international capital markets and, therefore, better conditions in terms of interest rates and longer terms, both for the State with its sovereign bonds and for any company that qualifies.

Why Is This Good for Investing in Paraguay?

With the second investment grade achieved, Paraguay consolidates itself as one of the safest and most attractive destinations for investments in Latin America. This means that:

    • More institutional investors - Pension funds, insurance companies and large financial institutions that can only invest in countries with investment grade can now allocate resources in Paraguay
    • Increased foreign capital flow - With consolidated international confidence, a significant increase in investments in various sectors of the economy is expected
    • Imminent real estate appreciation - With more investors putting money in the country, demand for real estate tends to grow rapidly, raising prices soon

For investors seeking asset protection and dollar-denominated returns, this is the ideal time to enter the Paraguayan market - before the expected appreciation materializes.
